wine-o. dine-o. by-myselfo.

My mom tends to spoil me... even living on my own, with a job, and gone for more then 5 years now? whoa. She wanted to buy me a grad present but I didnt know what I wanted. I got thinkin...

I have alwayyyyys wanted to go on a trip alone. yes..ALONE! hotel to myself, dinner at a restaurant by myself, shop by myself. Is it weird i like being alone that much? CAUSE I LOVE IT!

My mom pulled through once again and got me a flight and hotel in Edmonton for me to shop shop shop and lounge lounge lounge in my hotel room. I am more excited then Christmas eve. This is gonna be one hell of a party. Me, my red wine, ugly pjs, and receipts.

Thanks mom for making my loser dream come true:) Happy Hair School grad!

Congrats to me

I am beyond pleased to announce that I got hired at MYST Salon (the only salon i have ever wanted to work at since my hair journey started)! I am so eager to get going in my new career that I can barely find words.

I have dreamed of being a haistylist and makeup artist for as long as i could remember. Im not quite sure where I got the talent in me from... my mom can just barely cover braiding, and well my dad... hasn't had the stuff since he was about ten sooo...

I got lucky somewhere! If it wasn't for my boyfriends job..i would have never moved to Regina, and if i never moved to Regina I would have never went to hairschool, and if i didnt go to hairschool... well i would still be wondering "What if..."

You see... I graduated from post secondary school before.. BUT it didnt feel quite like this. I am now doing what "I" want to do... not necassarly the right thing, the safe thing, or the smart thing. OR maybe it is. BUT, its my thing.

I am there, i did it, i finished it, and now im about to begin it. Watch out beauty world... im just getting started.

Last week I started my in salon at MYST. Funny, because ever since I moved to Regina I walked by this salon thinking it was soo rad. Its downtown, Aveda(Most amazing product..which gave me a topic for my next post), in an old antique house... list goes on. Now... with only three weeks left till I am a professional stylist I am grateful to be doing my work term there. To work under them would be amazing. You never know what the future brings...

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT!

I have to publicly say sorry for something...

I have been ranting and raving about my very good pal Satima and her eyebrow threading for over a year and a half now. On my blog, to my friends at school, to new people I meet... everyone! Because she really is that good.

Tonight I was at Satimas getting my brows done which were much needed. I asked if she would like me to make her some business cards so I filled out a piece of paper where she just had to fill in the blanks as to what she wanted on them.

Satima
Phone-
Address-

She politely said "Shannon.....Can I show you something?" in her beautiful indian accent. I replied "yes" of course. Then she carries on to say in a soft voice "My name is with an "F", its FATIMA" "WHATTTTT?!!!!!!!" you mean to tell me I have been sending people here calling you Satima, writing you cards titled Satima and family, carrying on the last year and a half calling you Satima and you never said a thing!?" "Well... no I didn't want to tell you cause your so nice" ahhh. ohhhh my goddddddd im mortified. So mortified that I could name a million things i would have rather went through then this. Im supposed to be her friend... I AM her friend. oh god.

I now onmy blog for everyone to see... have to say sorry, and that i cannot stop laughing at the fact this would ONLY happen to me...Shannon Hryhor, the most unlucky girl around. hahaha.

Well.. FATIMA... this is going to be a tough one going back in time. But you truly are an angel... Whether your names with an F or an S. Your beautiful and talented. And im sorry for getting your name wrong. Forgive me.

Small Town Flair-Melfort, SK makeup trip

I made the trip to Melfort to do makeup for a wedding. The small salon was nice enough to let me come in and do my thang for a wedding party, while they did theirs. I brought an assistant this time... my mother. I wish she could come to all my little gigs... cause all she did was "gig" (giggle). We had a few laughs, and then I treated her to lunch in Melfort for coming with me. The only thing we agreed on, was the greasy truck stop. Their great waitress, and greasy hashbrowns beat any big city resturant.

Thanks for comin Ma, now if I could only bring you back to Regina to be my assistant in house cleaning...

Summer Cheeks

Whoa summer. When I'm not sweating doing makeup after makeup for weddings/grads, I am camping all over Saskatchewan with no makeup in site. Would that be a pun in a sentence?

Not sure, but I am sure that it's been an awesome summer and it's not even Aug! Only 3 more months left of hairschool... it is so bittersweet. Cant wait to be doing what I love to do as a "Career", but I WILL miss all the regulars (or not so regular) clients at the school that come in on a daily basis. I feel like after doing $9 haircuts on Downtown Scarth Street, I will be able to write a book. Seriously, imagine the most obsene, halarious, disturbing, and smelly people ever... times that by ten...and you have the regular walk ins at Marvel. I LOVE IT. I will walk out of there with practice on everything from a mullet, to a mohawk, to the cutest pixie cut around... all because I chose Marvel School of Beauty in Downtown Regina:)

MAKEUP- I was just in Candle Lake doing makeup for a friends wedding. The stylists at the salon there were nice enough to let me bring in my stuff and set up shop right there and do my thang. And thats what i did, it was so much fun.

This weekend I am in Regina doing makeup for Salon Fli, and next weekend Melfort. Busy Busy Busy.. I wouldn't want it any other way. I Love crazy chaotic life... bring it on beauty world!

Take care, and thanks for reading:) Heres some pics from my last weeks wedding... Congrats Stacey and Curtis:), thanks for having me.

Salon Fli

Salon Fli is a unique salon located in the "Warehouse District" in Regina. I heard about the salon before I even moved to the city. The stylists at Fli are known for their unique hair design from shows, educating, and salon performance.
I was lucky enough to get in contact with the owner of Salon Fli and am now stepping my foot in there as a part time staff member doing makeup. Fli is such a fun and upbeat place to be. Whether you are getting your hair/makeup done, sitting in the waiting room... or working! I love it, and I am really excited for more to come!
You don't have to go to Toronto to feel like a big city gal/guy, you can get it at Fli on Dewdney.

Cheers to my beautiful model Ashley! Each student was to create a model from head to toe (hair-makeup-dress) in an "icey" theme. This is what i did. It was a great day and experience.

Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder

pas·sion (pas̸h′ən)- Strong love or desire.
A month into hair school.. and loving every second of it! The early mornings, the long hours on my feet, the tests about different diseases of the hair... i love it all! When its something your passionate about, it doesn't feel like work or school.

I am finished my ladies cuts and just starting on my mens. Before I know it, I will be your stylist.

For an appointment, come to Marvel Beauty School. Downtown Regina on Scarth Street. Beautiful area, great student stylists, half the price!, and the funnest school that doesn't feel like a school. I can promise you, you will leave happy.

Cheers to a new Career, and a life long dream.

Eyebrow Threading

For those of you who have never heard or taken part of this heaven sent hair removal. YOU MUST!
"THREADING" is the name.

I first had it done in Vancouver about 3 years ago, and have searched high and low for ladies/men in Saskatchewn who do it ever since. Sure... some salons do it... but no little freckly white girl can thread an eyebrow like women with culture who have been doing it since they could stand.

Lucky me!.. I found an AMAZING eyebrow threader in Regina. Her name is Satima. I highly encourage you to go try it out! Its cheap, quick, painless, and shapes your eyebrows for months on months. I go quite regularly.. mainly because i love Satima.. but also.. because having freshly shaped brows makes me feel beautiful even without makeup on.

Look up "threading" on youtube.com to see what its like!

SATIMA: 306-351-5271 or 205-5928
She charges $5.00.. give her $10! I don't know what she is thinking... she deserves way way more. You will never beat that!
She also waxes.

These are a few of my favorite things...

Some things are worth the splurge. Some are just worth buying over and over and over again, because nothing compares! Here are some of my favorites... cheap, or steap....

1. Mascara-Loreal Voluminous original mascara: AMAZING! I have tried every mascara, and myself as well as all my girlfriends SWEAR by this golden find. $7

2.Eyeshadow- Mac
"naked lunch" (a nice shimmery beige that can be used under or over ANY color. It's simple and classy.)
"Carbon" BLACK! I use this as eyeliner, for smokey eyes, or for the entire lid. If you want to use it as a bold eyeliner, simple wet your small diagonal brush before you apply). $14 each

3.Brows- Joe clear brow sealer. This is bought at Superstore in the makeup section. It keeps brows looking clean, groomed and in place. $4

4.Eyeliner- Covergirl Outlast Smoothwear. This stuff lasts forever. Its like a crayon almost, I use it for the inside of the eye for that bold and brightening eye look. $6

5.Lipstick-Mac. My favorite two colors right now are "Ladybug Red", which is that BRIGHT and bold red that eveyone seems to always be looking for. "Media" is almost a DARK purple/black. It is very in right now, I think every girl should try wearing it out atleast once! So fun, so hot.$15

6.Tinted Moisturizer- Merle Norman. I love tinted moisturizer when its summer and I dont need alot of makeup, when my skin is clear and don't need a cover up, or just to have in my purse incase I stay out all night and need something to boost my self-esteem in the morning.

7. Brushes- Mac and/or QUO. You don't need as many brushes as you think. You need a large powder brush, blush brush, large shadow brush, small angled liner brush, and a lip brush. Also a foundation brush is handy... some people like to do without. It's a preference. I like it. Brushes range from $10-$60 but you can catch sales regularly around the holidays.

8. Bronzer- Arbonne. My NEW favorite! I have tried every bronzer in the book and dislike them all. I just recently tried some of my girlfriends from Arbonne and fell in love! Its so light, and in a VERY LARGE case! You dont need much, therefore it lasts a long long time. Many people sell beauty control, it's finding a contact that might be the hard part. Check out the website. www.Arbonne.ca to find out how to order.
around $45 dollars, but worth every penny in the long run.

9.Setting Spray-Model in a Bottle. I saw this stuff on Oprah one day and thought i just HAVE to have it. Its like hairspray for your face! How much greater could that get? It comes in a bottle and you mist it on after you are done your makeup application. It allows your makeup to stay on with sweat, rubbing, time..etc. Its awesome. Look it up on the internet and I believe there will be ordering options.

10. Brush Cleaner-Icypropyl Alcohol. There are many different brush cleaners you can buy out there. I think they are just eating your money. Personally, I just spend $2.00 on a bottle of Icypropyl and put it in a spray bottle. Spray my brushes then wipe off with a towel and leave to dry. Its cheap, safe on your brushes, and easy. You can get it at any drugstore.

I could go on and on! But for now I hope I found you some of YOUR new favorites. Email me for any other questions, or recommendations on any other products! :) Enjoy.

"HAIR"- My newest makeup/hair adventure!

"Do it with class" is Regina’s only theatrical production company made up entirely of youth. DIWC provides company members with a unique opportunity to receive training in a range of performing arts, including dance, voice, drama, and musical theatre production.

Just a FEW examples of shows they have done are:
The Rocky Horror Show
WestSide Story - Alumni
The Little Prince
Titanic, The Musical
The Actor's Nightmare
Talking & Complaining

This YEAR on October 26th & 27th-HAIR the musical
SEX, DRUGS, & ROCK & ROLL!
Easy? YA RIGHT! This showbiz stuff isnt for sissies. They yell, they scream, they rush... but they never stress. I was more stressed getting them ready then they were performing! Performers are such easy going, natural creatures.
It was such an AMAZING experience. Getting to be backstage and involved in all the chaos was insane. I did way more hair then I did makeup...wasn't prepared at all. But thats showbiz right?
Seat of your pants.
